Healthy for the Harvest: Your Journey

So many of us love God and want to serve Him fully—but behind the scenes, we’re running on empty. Anxiety, stress, poor sleep, and nagging health symptoms leave us in survival mode. The truth is, you can’t pour from an empty cup. To walk in your calling, you must be spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy.

This week on the podcast, I share why holistic health matters for discipleship and for the abundant life God has called us to live.

Why Health Matters for God’s Calling

God calls us to go, but we must be healthy to do so. Too often we’re weighed down by stress and anxiety that keep us locked in fight-or-flight mode. Saying yes to everything leaves us burned out and ineffective. And sometimes, hidden health issues—like gut infections or nutrient imbalances—are quietly draining our energy and joy.

If you’ve felt stuck, it’s not just in your head. Your whole health—spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical—matters for your wellness journey.

Nutrition as Stewardship

Nutrition is more than just what’s on your plate. I call what’s off your plate “primary nutrition”—things like prayer, relationships, rest, and joy. These are essential for your emotional and spiritual health. Secondary nutrition is the actual food you eat. Food can either be medicine that strengthens your body or poison that fuels stress, fatigue, and anxiety.

Making even 1% lifestyle changes can shift your energy, reduce stress, and bring peace back into your daily rhythms.

Practical Steps You Can Start Today

Start with your breath. When anxiety rises, take a moment to breathe deeply into your diaphragm. This simple act signals to your body that you are safe and helps pull you out of fight-or-flight mode.

Pay attention to your plate. Add one colorful fruit or vegetable today, and notice how even the smallest change can bring life to your body.

Most importantly, pause and ask: “Is this God’s best thing for me right now?” Discernment is part of stress management. When you let go of what isn’t God’s best, you free up energy for the things that matter most.

Health Is a Journey Worth Taking

Whole-body health is not about perfection—it’s about progress. Each small step you take helps align your spiritual health, emotional health, mental health, and physical health so you can step confidently into God’s calling.

As I often say: “Health is a journey worth taking.”
